Wake up

Ideally more than India, 26/11 would have been proved to be a wake up call for Pakistan. Alas no such thing has happened. With the changing statements of Pakistan’s president Mr.Zardari. Why should Pakistan feel afraid when it is not guilty to the attacks in Mumbai to it is the handiwork of non state actors. The implications were just two:

One, Zardari saying I am helpless, can’t do anything or even if its Pakistan, what can you do about it. This is how it is. I don’t think being in a condition that Pakistan is in their president could have afforded the second implication.

If Pakistani leadership is hellbent on proving Pakistan’s innocence to the Mumbai attacks, their media is one step ahead. A Leading Urdu paper in Pakistan ‘Daily Ausaf’ reported about 26/11 being a international conspiracy against Pakistan. Media is capable of cooking up nice, imaginative out of this world stories. Needless to say ‘Daily Ausaf’ is the best of them all. Except that there ll be no takers for this theory. The reasons are few.

What’s in a name, anyway:Somebody who calls Pakistan a democracy I presume knows, he is fooling himself. The world today needs no proof of it. The civilian government in Pakistan backtracked on its words of sending ISI chief Shuja Pasha to India. The world saw Pakistan in fear. It is the Army-ISI combo which rules Pakistan. It’s out in the open.

The Great Cause: ‘One man’s terrorist is another freedom fighter’. Pakistan is unofficially waging a war against India since years. It is terrorism. No matter how important Kashmir cause is for Pakistan, it cannot justify killing of innocents. The cause for terrorism can never be a match for humanity.

Toeing the line: As to why the civilian Government in Pakistan can not support India in its war against terrorism is apparent. It can stay in power as long as it toes the line of the Military-ISI combo. The day civilian government will have its voice it will lose its power to govern people. But why has some sections of the media been an ally to the eyewash that Pakistan is presenting in response to 26/11. Not owning its citizen is that what democracy means to Pakistan?

Blindfold or an eyewash: You call it a bluff/eyewash. Though the perpetrators of Mumbai attacks are Pakistanis, they are non state actors. Isn’t it a great coincidence that all such so called non state actors come from from a state ‘Pakistan’. It is not an eyewash for the world, it is a blindfold for Pakistan.

Blessed are those who are blind and cannot see. Cursed are those who have eyes but wish to evade the reality. Pakistan belongs to the latter. This is no solution Pakistan can afford, not at the expense of India nor at the expense of its own.

Nawaz Sharif, leader of PML(N) party said: Pakistan has started showing signs of a failed state. Pakistani media can surely help its country, if only, it wakes up now.
