afzal-guru_1l7Wy_65Nothing but the word “irony” seems to be the right word for Afzal Guru’s statement “I wish LK Advani becomes India’s next PM as he is the only one who can take a decision and hang me. His statement has come as a fully blown up slap on Congress’ face. Rightly so, for the party deserves it given its dragging-its-feet attitude over Guru’s hanging. For me, it is a grim reminder of the extent that our national parties can go to appease the minority. Thus we see Congress oh-what-can-we-do-about it tendency in defining the fate of an indigenous terrorist even when it has costed us an attack on the parliament.

Afzal Guru seems to be telling the Congress Hang me if you can; while talking to a news agency from the Tihar Jail. It is after a long time (read:3years) since one has heard of Afzal. The turn of events in this case have been ironic. Afzal was convicted by the court in 2004, the year UPA came into power at the centre and so the party saw little sense in rubbing minorities the wrong way. Afzal was put into the jail till Congress caught up into the Govt. business. As of now almost everything seems to be against the Congress. Amidst the inflation debate, the almost dead nuke deal his statement has added to the party’s woes.

Without getting into the big debate as to whether or not capital punishment plays a role in lessening the criminal tendency in people, i want Afzal to be hanged. For me it seems right. Why right? Because i think that not only the punishment would be logical but also it will send the correct signal to those who kill innocent people in the name of ‘Jehad’ and ‘Qatal’(read:the new term in terroism lingo). And for all those joining not-all-muslims-are-terrorists groups on social networking sites, i have just one thing to say: while its true that an entire community cannot to be blamed for the ill doings of a few individuals. At the same time i want to underline the obvious fact that majority of the terrorists are Muslims. For all those who resent over why Muslims are viewed as terrorists, they must know that people who feel so have some logic if not sound logic guiding them in such perception.

Also its high time for our Home Minister to take some cue from Afzal’s statement the next time he draws similarities between Afzal and Sarabjit. Afzal said he sympathizes with Sarabjit, adding that any comparion between himself and Sarabjit are uncalled for. So the bottom line is that a convict himself has said that please hang me for he doesn’t want to be among what he termed as ‘living dead’. Anyone listening? So while my sympathies are with Congress for its inability to decide anything about everything, at the same time i condemn it for the vote-bank politics which is the defining factor of its politics. So the next time Rahul Gandhi eats with a dalit family you know the reason for it. Congress’ strategies are too simple, on your face but stupid.

May be firing the strategists would help, may be ...

It was home minister Shivraj Patil who made a gaffe when he hinted at the similarity between the cases of Afzal and Sarabjit.

Afzal seems to be utterly sick and tired of waiting for the Indian government to act on his case.

If a terrorist gets so frustrated by the inaction of the government, imagine how the citizens of India must be feeling.

I don't know why we capture and feed these terrorists in our prisons. after committing the heinous crimes against humanity, they don't deserve to be alive and I am sure all rhyme with me who love their motherland, India. Terrorists need to be shot at sight. we don't have extra ration to feed them in the jails. Why our politicians are too docile to pursue the agenda against the terrorists and these terrorists are lucky to take the religious and minority shield to escape. When US can reach Afghanistan and Iraq to fight terrorism to safeguard their homeland, why india comes under pressure to pursue the same in order to make our border safe.

Congress party has done nothing to safeguard india's interests but rather their own. they have, every now and then, played the vote bank politics to ensure its win in the election. I know the terrorism problem is difficult to deal with. It may seem insurmountable but no impossible. it can be wiped out provided there is honesty of thought and will to tackle it, difficult, however, it may be.

can there be the best example of official apathy than this one. Well I don't think. but this is really strange that a terrorist of Afzal Guru's stature is asking for the death, for he is being too fed up with the indian system. Ridiculous!!! but that is great indeed, he deserves it. A death penalty would have been easy death for him and he doesn't deserve that. he should die inch by inch and that is what happening to him. However, it hurts a lot to see the sad indian state of affairs that are equal for all - be it Afzal Guru or an indian looking for the justice.

Why you all blame islam and Muslims for the terrorism. there are other terrorists in india. How about the LTTE, Maoist rebels, Nexlites, Nagas...you never call it Hindu terrorism. Are they not the terrorists. do they not murder the innocents. Why you all think that it's Muslims who are the terrorists and measure the whole community with the same stick. how can you do that?

Are u crazy to expect anything from congress and its cronies who bothers nthing but its own interests. even if they will hang him, they will make a political issue out of it to gain the vote.

congress party is lame who can not stand without crutches and will do nothing and nothing always comes out of nothing.

i appreciate and agree with Elias for his abrupt thinking. we need this thinking to deal with terrorism. why we are prolonging their stay in the prison when they deserve hanging. Why to give an opportunity to the terrorists to hijack another plane and ask for his release like the Kandahar Hijacking for Mahmoud Azhar. A stitch at time saves nine.

just give him what he is asking for!!! at least when he has made (rather told reality) fun of our system. just don't make him wait too long. he is not asking for a release. just hang him and that's all. after all that is what he deserves. why to delay. His request should be granted or else he should be released.

Well Irfan i totally agree with you for religion cannot be attached to terrorism in this way or that way.It was never intended to hurt muslims’ sentiments. It is yet another point of view and i m not being judgemental to it in any way.By the way we all make generalizations,it is part of human nature, though i believe a wrong one.
